Breaking News: Continental Airline pilot dies during a flight enroute to Newark Airport.  The plane is now set to land shortly around noon (EST) at Terminal C in Newark Airport.  The flight appears to be under control thanks to the first officers onboard the plane.  No report of how or why the pilot has died, nor the number of passengers on board.  Despite the heavy rains and fog, it appears that FAA officials are expecting a routine landing at any moment.

MYFOXNY.COM – A pilot at the controls of Continental Airlines Flight 61 has died during the flight.

Port Authority officials say the plane was en route to Newark Liberty International Airport from Brussels, Belgium.The flight is scheduled for a noon landing.  The airport is covered in fog and rainy conditions that have lead to delays of over 60 minutes on depatures.  No arrival delays were reported and the FAA says the plane will receive priority landing status.

Fox 5 News reported that the co-pilot took control of the plane, along with a passenger who is a pilot. Passengers are reportedly not in any immediate danger.  The plane is is a Boeing 777 with 247 passengers on board.

The Associated Press reports that Continental Airlines says a pilot who died in mid-flight was a 61-year-old man with more than 20 years of service to the airline. Airline spokeswoman Kelly Cripe says the pilot died of natural causes

The airport was covered in fog and rainy conditions.  The flight received priority landing status.

There were initial reports that the co-pilot took control of the plane, along with a passenger who was also a pilot.  That second additional pilot actually turned out to be an additional relief pilot on the flight crew.

The plane was is a Boeing 777 with 247 passengers on board.

The Associated Press reports that Continental Airlines says a pilot who died in mid-flight was a 61-year-old man with more than 20 years of service to the airline. Airline spokeswoman Kelly Cripe says the pilot died of natural causes about 2 hours before the plane was scheduled to land.
