Microsoft has been in talks for years with Hollywood about making a live-action film for their beloved HALO video game franchise.
A while back, Peter Jackson and Neill Blomkamp were in talks with 20th Century Fox over this project, but then put it on hold to make District 9.
It seems now, however, that the movie will see the light of day, with Hollywood’s biggest producer leading the way.

For those who don’t know, I’m referring to Steven Spielberg. The man behind Transformers, Jaws, E.T., Indiana Jones (Nuked the Fridge), Gremlins, The Goonies, Poltergeist, Back to The Future (The man produces AND Directs – see his list here), and the kitchen sink (I added that, but seriously, don’t be surprised if he was involved in its production). It seems that not only is he good friends with Bill Gates himself, but is so blown away by a script already in circulation, that he is already in active negotiations to bring it to the big screen. It been speculated that Dreamworks wants to take this on as a signature project to help launch their new distribution deal with Walt Disney Pictures.

HALO follows Master Chief, a cybernetically-enhanced human super-soldier, in the distant future. With the help of his AI companion, Master Chief assists mankind in fighting the Covenant, a theocratic alliance of alien races. The script Mr. Spielberg is interested in is an origin story of sorts that has never been told in the video games! This is perfect because it will attract fans of the franchise who would like to know more as well as non-fans who would be entertained by a science fiction action film.
